miss_k_reviews Encounter yourself an antithesis to bland meaningless music. Here is an album that is limitless; as a journey, it builds and envelops sound in ways that at first seem typical but quickly stretch out into something different.

The contrast that winds its way down the tapestry keeps one listening and allows for wonder to blossom. Interesting enough to return to again and again - but strange enough to keep the surprises fresh and keep the same interest that seduces from the very beginning. Favorite track: Broken Promise.

about

The 3rd offering from Thom Carter’s ‘Black Crown’ project, ‘Road Movies’ is an album full of contradictions and unexpected sonic combinations. From the softest piano sounds that open the album, to the roaring wall of guitars that close it, each track offers a different spectrum of colours and emotions that are connected by the theme of travel and of place.

The music utilizes a vast palate of electric and acoustic instruments (as well as field recordings) to open the door onto a new way of composing and hearing sound, and draws upon the heritage of World music and Western Classical music, as well the experimental electronic compositions of the 1970s and recent developments in post-rock.

‘Road Movies’ is an album about freedom – freedom of imagination, of movement, of thought, of travel , of speech – and is a war-cry against the soullessness of contemporary ‘pop’ and ‘alternative’ music culture alike.
